Accreditation is the recognition of the quality of programs that meet quality standards. Currently, the need for accreditation of educational programs and institutional accreditation in international agencies is justified by the fact that Kazakhstan’s universities need to meet the quality standards set by international professional societies. This makes it possible to ensure the quality of training in accordance with the requirements of the labor market.
At the Moment, in the law on education, a separate article 9-1 is devoted to accreditation as one of the most important tools for improving the quality of educational services. Accreditation can be carried out by national and international accreditation bodies on the basis of standards developed by them. The Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan forms a register of accreditation agencies recognized in Kazakhstan.
AT THE MOMENT 6 AGENCIES ARE INCLUDED IN THIS REGISTER:
- IAAR-Independent Agency for accreditation and rating, Kazakhstan;
- IQAA-Independent Kazakhstan Agency for quality assurance in education, Kazakhstan;
- ASIIN, Agency for accreditation of educational programs in engineering, computer science, natural Sciences and mathematics, Germany;
- ACQUIN, Institute of accreditation, certification and quality assurance, Germany;
- AQA, Austrian quality assurance Agency, Austria;
- ABET, Accreditation Council for engineering and technology, USA.
Accreditation received in these agencies since the formation of the register on may 31, 2012 is considered recognized in Kazakhstan.
According to the law on education, accreditation is carried out on a voluntary basis. The educational organization independently selects the accreditation body included in the register and pays for the accreditation procedures at its own expense.
Educational organizations that have passed specialized accreditation have the right to issue their own educational documents to citizens in accordance with accredited programs.
Institutions that have passed institutional and specialized accreditation are exempt from the state certification procedure for accredited programs for the period of accreditation.
